Smart technologies are igniting rural economic development, improving health care and education, and improving farming and ranching production. The Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC) Agriculture and Rural Broadband SuperCluster encourages collaboration on innovative agricultural technology and rural projects and released a blueprint for rural communities in July. On February 19, 2020, the GCTC Agriculture and Rural SuperCluster will host a workshop with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), and NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association (NTCA). Participants from across the United States will provide glimpses into their projects, including challenges and noteworthy practices related to broadened Internet access and Internet of Things related to agriculture, public safety, education and rural health. Attendees will represent government agencies (including USDA, NIST, NTIA), universities (including Purdue and Iowa State), nonprofit institutions (Joint Venture Silicon Valley), broadband providers, private businesses and rural broadband users. Registration is free. The SuperCluster meeting will be collocated with the NTCA R-TIME (Rural Telecom Industry Meeting and Expo) conference, February 16-19, 2020.
