The project proposes the following activities designed to improve access to, and use of, broadband services among Tribal members:
- Deploy a 15-mile middle-mile fiber network connecting the Santo Domingo Pueblo lands with a regional Internet exchange located in Albuquerque, New Mexico;
- Construct 6 150’ monopole towers to deliver qualifying wireless service to tribal members living in outlying areas and adjacent communities;
- Retrofit 2 existing communications towers with the necessary equipment to deliver qualifying wireless service to tribal households in the Pueblo Plaza area;
- Construct a 3,500 square foot Network Operations and Training Center to maintain the Pueblo’s broadband network, house network servers and equipment, and serve as a training facility for IT staff.
This project will:
- Enable Santo Domingo Pueblo tribal members, businesses, and community anchor institutions to access affordable, high-speed broadband.
- Connect Pueblo students to regional and national research and education networks.
- Foster collaborative curriculum development between the Pueblo’s schools.
- Enhance communication between students, teachers, elders, artisans, and community leaders.
- Increase STEM opportunities for Pueblo youth.
- Expand economic development opportunities for Pueblo members.
- Allow tribal staff to participate in the Santa Fe Indian School’s Cultivating Our Own to Lead (COOL) IT workforce training programs.
- and create a private network for intra-tribal coordination and data storage.
The project intends to benefit all members of the Santo Domingo Pueblo Tribe.
