Project Title:
Fort McDermitt Paiute and Shoshone Broadband Connectivity Project
Funding Program:
Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program
Project Purpose/Type:
The Tribe proposes to use the NTIA grant funds to plan, design, and deploy accessible broadband infrastructure that operates with sufficient latency to be useful to all residents of the reservation and those near the reservation for whom the Tribe provides services. The Tribe proposes to use Numu Communications LLC, and its partner/sub-contractor, Skylark Wireless, to construct and deploy the broadband infrastructure. The broadband technology to be used will result in very affordable broadband services, at about $60 per month with speeds of 100 Mbps download/20 Mbps upload and will allow the Tribe to be able to fully use internet for its government operations, which include health, telehealth and education, and public safety.

The project proposes the following activities:
- Deployment planning activities.
- Equipment purchases for tower deployment.
- Other equipment costs.
- Antennas and other co-location equipment.
- Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).
The benefits of this proposal not only will bring full high-quality broadband service to the Tribe and its residents on and near the reservation but will also assist in an economic development business venture of the Tribe with affordable prices for its customers and employment for Tribal members. This broadband capability will also enhance the Tribe’s ability to realize its planned economic growth.
This initial broadband deployment will cover 100 residences and 7 Tribal buildings with full-service speeds of 100 Mbps Download/20 Mbps Upload. About 10 residences will receive service speeds between 25 Mbps Download/ 5 Mbps Upload and 50 Mbps Download/10 Mbps Upload due to distance from the main tower.
