Digital Equity/Inclusion Coordinator:

The Chula Vista Library, Office of Sustainability, and Office of Economic Development oversee and facilitate digital inclusion and equity initiatives.

 

Digital Equity/Inclusion Resources:

Chula Vista Library Computers & Wi-Fi:  The Chula Vista Library provides free Wi-Fi at all branches, library computers for up to 1 hour per session, and Wi-Fi hotspots and Chromebooks to checkout.


Technology Training: The City of Chula Vista offers one-on-one technology training sessions for residents and non-residents ages 50 years and older. Sessions cost $10 for residents and $13 for non-residents.


2018 Telecommunications Master Plan: The 2018 Telecommunications Master Plan focuses on the development of a fiber and telecommunications infrastructure to achieve the City of Chula Vista’s Smart Cities vision.


Energy Station: Housed in the Chula Vista Public Library and partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric, students receive hands-on learning experience in topics like clean energy, wind and solar power, and energy storage.

Tech2Go: The Los Angeles Public Library's Tech2Go initiative provides computer bundles for 6 months at a time to adults with a valid library card. Computer bundles include a Chromebook device and an Internet hotspot. 

 

Angeleno Connectivity Trust: The Angeleno Connectivity Trust is a $14 million initiative aimed at providing 100GB per year of free Internet access for up to 18,000 students for the next five years. This program serves K-12 students and youth who experience homelessness, children in foster care, young people with disabilities, at-risk youth, and those who may have dropped out of school or cannot attend due to the lack of technological resources and connectivity. 

 

Improving Digital Equity in Los Angeles: This resource addresses the City of Los Angeles' digital divide by illustrating the city's level of Internet access with geographic data.

Community Learning & Internet Connectivity (CLiC): The City of Moreno Valley established CLiC in October of 2020 as a community resource hub to close the digital divide.


WiFi Garden: The WiFi Garden project offers free public WiFi at numerous public facilities (e.g., parks and city facilities).


Hotspot Device Program: Patrons can check out WiFi hotspots for one month at a time from the Moreno Valley Public Library. The hotspots offer unlimited bandwidth and allow up to eight devices to share an Internet connection.


Tech for Success: The City of Moreno Valley partners with the Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Riverside County to distribute refurbished computers to those who need assistance.

Digital Equity Response Program: The Digital Equity Response Program was constructed by a partnership between the City of Sacramento and United Way California Capitol Region. They partnered to provide up to 10,000 qualifying households with Internet connectivity, and up to 1,000 individuals and families with computers or hotspots at no cost. Additionally, the program provides digital literacy training and outreach for community members such as seniors, children, and individuals with limited English skills.

 

Wi-Fi in City Parks: The City of Sacramento partnered with Verizon to establish free high-speed Wi-Fi access points at 27 parks throughout the city.

Open Public Wi-Fi in San Diego: The City of San Diego offers free public Wi-Fi at over 300 public locations such as city libraries, recreation centers, and over 250 street locations in historically underserved neighborhoods.

 

Library Laptop Check Out: New laptops are available to use for up to two hours at a time at neighborhood libraries. 

 

Mobile Hotspot Program: Library patrons may check out mobile hotspots for up to 90 days at a time which allow users to connect their laptop, tablet, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices to the Internet.

San Jose Digital Inclusion Fund: The San Jose Digital Inclusion Fund is an $18 million cross-sector fund provided by the San Jose Mayor’s Office of Technology and Innovation, the San Jose City Manager’s Office of Civic Innovation, and the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF). Funds will be distributed in grant awards over a ten-year period to provide Internet connectivity to residents, ensure that every resident has a device, and enhance digital skills.
