Project Purpose/Type:
The Broadband Infrastructure Deployment project proposes to install fiber to directly connect 19 unserved community anchor institutions, deploy a wireless network to connect 710 unserved Native American households and 12 Native American businesses with fixed wireless to the home 25 Mbps/3 Mbps service, and construct a data server building to house IT equipment.

The project proposes the following activities designed to improve access to, and use of, broadband services among Tribal members:
- Install a 9.5-mile fiber-to-the-premises network providing qualifying service of 1000/1000 Mbps (scalable to 50/50 Gbps) to all unserved community anchor institutions across three towns of the Omaha Tribal Reservation including: Macy, Rosalie, and Walthill, Nebraska.
- Construct 15 wireless towers to provide qualifying service to 710 unserved Native American households in the towns of Macy, Walthill, and Rosalie, and in outlying Tribal areas.
- Construct a 700 square foot data server building to house network equipment and infrastructure.
- Develop two IT positions for experienced professionals with the capability to strategically manage the process of Reservation Broadband development and Broadband implementation/construction.
This project will:
- Improve Tribe members’ ability to access to telehealth, e-commerce, and distance learning services.
- Increase data server capacity for Tribal Administration and Health Departments, resulting in improved services for residents of the Omaha Tribe Reservation.
- Create 10 – 15 construction sector jobs.
The project intends to benefit 710 unserved Native American households, 12 Native American businesses, 19 Native American community anchor institutions, and all members of the Omaha Tribe who utilize tribal administrative and healthcare services.
