Project Purpose/Type:
This Planning, Engineering, Feasibility, and Sustainability Studies project will assist the Tribe to complete required planning activities necessary to prepare to install high-speed reliable broadband Internet service.

- Complete plan for broadband infrastructure project to improve Internet access and public safety for the Tribe.
- Complete plan for high-speed fiber optic Internet access for unserved Tribal households, unserved Tribal businesses, and unserved Tribal community anchor institutions in the area in and around the Karuk Village of Panamnik.
- Complete plans to build broadband towers for a wireless middle mile backhaul.
- Complete additional pre-construction activities such as: fiber, wireless, and tower engineering including site surveys and fiber design; environmental assessments including permitting; and project management.
- Completed plan for improved online learning opportunities for K-12 and college students, as well as the Panamnik Library.
- Improved emergency response, especially in high fire risk areas. Improved health care access by bringing in telehealth services, reducing waiting time and travel. Improved business opportunities, expecting to increase online sales for Tribal businesses and increase job opportunities for Tribal members.
- Improved interactions between government services and Tribal members.
- Enable the Tribe to communicate with Tribal members that do not live on ancestral territory by offering online classes to promote Native languages, traditional skills, and increase cultural awareness.
- Improve the quality of life by connecting Tribal members to real-time events such as cultural, civic, health, and recreational information, and the ability to communicate with friends and family.
